Choosing a Theme for Your Next Event

One important aspect of event planning is choosing a theme for your party or gathering. Unless you are planning a wedding or a baby shower, the theme might not be obvious. The theme can be anything you choose, but it's important to remember your guests' comfort and therefore plan with that in mind. It's wise to have a theme that all guests can easily adapt to. Having to go out and purchase a new outfit or rent an elaborate costume is a burden for some people, and attending an event should be something that people look forward to.

One theme that lasts year after year is of course, the birthday party. Birthday parties are a wonderful cause for celebration and they can be enjoyed by people of virtually any age. If you are planning a youngster's birthday you might choose to have an additional theme. Two ideas are a sleep-over or a backwards party, where the children all put on their clothes backwards and the cake is served before dinner. In circumstances like this, event planning is fun for both the parents and the child. It's wonderfully rewarding for the child to be involved in every aspect of the planning of their birthday celebration; unless of course, you opt for a surprise party. Planning a surprise birthday party gets to be a bit trickier but with a little help and a great deal of patience, it can be an enormous success.

A popular theme for parties is having the guests wear costumes. This can be fun for everyone involved and children especially enjoy it during the Halloween season. It gives them an opportunity to put on something fun and act differently for a day. Event planning for a Halloween or costume party is much the same as any other event. You need to first contact the guests and tell them that they'll need to find a costume to wear. Then it's time to choose a menu and decorations. Although the theme is a bit different than your average cocktail party, the event planning aspect is very much the same. It is attention to detail that is most important.

Other popular themes that people enjoy for gatherings are:

1. Hawaiian or a beach theme. All the guests dress up in swimsuits and straw hats and drink tropical drinks. This is especially enjoyable during the colder, winter months.

2. A 1950s or 1960s flashback party. You can request that the guests dress from the era you've chosen and with the music that was popular back in the day playing, it will really be a blast from the past!

It's important when you are working on the event planning of any party, to choose a theme that people will enjoy and can be fit into any and all budgets. Once the party starts, don't forget to join in the fun with your guests. Whether it's a birthday party or a New Year's Eve party if you plan accordingly, you can make it an event that will long be remembered.

How To Monetize Your Blog More Effectively

How To Monetize Your Blog More Effectively

So you've done the hard work...you've chosen the niche market that you are going to target, you've created the content that they'd be interested in, you've implemented your onpage and offpage search engine optimization and finally you've managed to establish your blog in it's market and are being rewarded by a steady flow of traffic from the search engines and other sources.

Now - Your BIG question is - "How do you convert this steady flow of traffic into money"?

You will no doubt already be trying certain methods, an AdSense ad here and an affiliate link there, for example, but there's something new that I wanted to tell you about.

This "something new" will do three things for your blog:

1. It will instantly make it more profitable.

2. It will give it more keyword rich content pages which will give it more search engine rankings which will increase that "steady flow of traffic" and make it even more profitable.

3. It will give it another dimension further distinguishing it from its competitors whilst enhancing your visitors experience.

So what is this "something new"?

It's a clever piece of software called Build A Niche Store and what it does is enable you to instantly build an affiliate store made up of eBay's products and matched to your target niche.

This means that if you have a Golf blog, with Build A Niche Store you will be able to add all of eBay's golf products to it, and if you have an Antiques blog then you will be able to add all of eBay's antique items...you get the idea.

You simply install the script, choose your niche, press build and you automatically have your own niche specific affiliate store which updates automatically (Yes - NO data feeds!) and which:

1. Will generate money for you when one of your blog visitors buys an item through it.

2. Will give your blog hundreds or thousands (depending on your niche) content rich product pages which will get indexed in the search engines targeting keywords you would otherwise not be reaching.

3. Will add a shopping experience for your visitors.

It's truly a great piece of software and looks set to become all the rage in the coming year.

You can check out the official Build A Niche Store website where you'll find case studies and a live demo which is sure to get your creative juices flowing at the link below.

This one gets my thumbs up!

Florist Help

A Real Local Florist

In your search for a real local florist, the Internet is a great first port of call. But there are also other resources. Try your local phone directory or a guide to your local town (look in your town's tourist information bureau). Both should give you a list of florists in your area and tell you something about them too.

Then, of course, there are recommendations from friends and other people you know. Often word of mouth is the best form of advertising and the best referral. A florist with a good reputation stands out.

However, when you want to send flowers, your highest priority is usually the quality, the price and the delivery time. Once you've researched local florists, it always pays to visit. Depending on where you live, you may have many to choose from. Here's where recommendations are good, because if you know anyone who sends flowers on a regular basis, they'll often be able to give good recommendations.

A gift of flowers comes straight from the heart, which is why you want to be assured that the florist who sends flowers for you is providing the highest quality service. Even if their premises look good, and they seem to know what they are doing, how can you know that the flowers you send will remain fresh for the longest time and arrive at their destination with that freshly-picked look?

How do you know the florist will give you the personal attention and advice you need? As a guide, consider the following points you when choosing a florist: First, they should provide the service, the design style and the products that you like. Then, they should offer you personal attention like keeping track of your preferences.

The florist should offer helpful suggestions about the flowers you send. And they should also provide a guarantee if you are not happy with the service or product for whatever reason. They should preferably offer a wide variety of flowers and floral styles and demonstrate creativity.

After all, you do want a beautiful arrangement.

Finally, consider a florist who has some form of professional affiliation. One who does will often have a professional standard they must meet and will be professionally trained. A well-established florist who's been in the business in one location for a number of years would be a good choice.

Keep these points in mind when you visit or phone. Note which are most important to you and focus on these.

No matter what you've been told or what you've read, if you don't feel comfortable with a particular florist, or don't like their designs, keep looking. You want a florist who will make the flower arrangements you like. You need someone who will work to your specifications rather than dismissing you as someone who knows nothing and doing what they like. Your florist should be able to give you helpful suggestions, but ultimately should agree to your wishes if they want your business.

Mugs and Tankards

Coming very soon to Pearson's Renaissance Shoppe are Mugs and Tankards. Very high quality pewter mugs and tankards. Did you know? Pewter is considered the world's fourth most precious metal after platinum, gold and silver. Its shiny brilliance gives it great value, particularly so when shaped into plates, goblets, figurines, etc. Unlike silver, pewter does not require polishing or any other special care. It does not rust, tarnish or deteriorate in any way over time. Our high-quality pewter line consists of over 400 items (not all being sold in the Shoppe), some of which are 24k gold trimmed. You literally have to touch it to appreciate the craftsmanship and the heavy weight. Our pewter contains a whopping 97% tin and is beautiful.

The mug or tankard is a great way to complete your renaissance costume, and always comes in handy on the hot days at the renaissance faire when you need a drink fast. Common ways worn were to hang them from you waist, wrist or to just keep hold of them for faster consumption.

Event Planning - Part 5 Creating an Ambiance

Event Planning Decoration Ideas

You've sent out the invitations, prepared all of the food, stocked up the liquor cabinet and somehow it still doesn't seem as though you are having a party. You forgot one very important detail when you were doing your event planning and that detail was decorations.
Decorations can make or break a party. Just ask any child who has been to a birthday party that was void of balloons and streamers. They'll have a good time, but without the celebratory environment, there is an important aspect missing.

When you are handling the event planning for your gathering, it's important to consider if decorations will add to the experience. You wouldn't want to hang banners or wear party hats during a dinner party with your business associates, but if you are throwing a Valentine's Day Bash, or a picnic to celebrate your nation's birthday, decorations can create a fun and festive mood.

During the event planning stage consider what you would envision the room or venue to look like. By doing this you can get a better sense of what you will require once it comes to purchasing the decorating supplies. If it's a children's birthday party, for instance, you'll want brightly colored balloons, a banner with the words "Happy Birthday" written along it and perhaps even a piñata. A piñata automatically symbolizes a celebration and during the party it becomes a festive focal point as well as being a game and source of hidden treats for the children as the party winds down.

Halloween parties also are much more enjoyable when there are decorations adorning the walls. Netting that resembles spider webs can be purchased for a very reasonable price at many event planning stores. There you'll also find plastic spiders and pumpkins of all sizes that will get your guests into a ghoulish mood. You can even purchase replica cauldrons that can hold snacks in lieu of a regular bowl or serving platter. It adds to the tone of the party when small details like that are incorporated.

Decorations don't need to be bright, colorful or attention grabbing. In the case of an intimate dinner party or cocktails with colleagues, a vase of fresh flowers adds a special touch to the room. It speaks of attention to detail and your guests will appreciate your gesture. You've shown them that you've taken time to add something special to the room. Their presence deserves that.

Regardless of what type of event planning you are doing, adding an extra touch to the aesthetics of the room will not only charm your guests but it will speak to the importance you place on the event. It doesn't need to be dozens of balloons or streamers hung from the rafters but it should add to the mood of the party and the environment. When you are handling your event planning, don't overlook the look of the room. Appropriate decorations should be near the top of your list.

Stepping Into Your Renaissance Character

Method Acting Improves Festival Experience

Ashland, NH - April 29, 2006 – Attending any Renaissance festival or event reveals the actor in all of us. The more we understand our historical character, the more fulfilling the event will be. But authentic method acting and character development is a skill rarely taught in school, or in life.

Begin by stretching your imagination and creating a role you’ve always wanted to play. Define your character. Where does your character live? How does your character conduct daily activities? What events have shaped your characters life and emotions? Build your character’s personality piece by piece.

Next, learn how to express their personality – physically. Most people believe actors must feel the same emotions as their characters to express this sentiment on stage or on screen. But this is simply not true. Actors use physical body language to communicate their character’s emotion. Is your character sad or sullen? Identify the physical body language of those in this frame of mind. Sad or sullen people typically express themselves in a downward angle, head slumped, shoulders fallen, eyes focused on the ground. In contrast, a character with pride and confidence physically resonates upward with their head held high, back straight and eyes directly in line with their recipient, if not above and beyond. Watch the body language of actors in various stages of emotion. If you mimic the physical gestures of someone billowing with laughter, regardless of how you feel, you can convince your audience that you feel silly and frivolous.

Apparel can be the best motivation an actor has when stepping into character. Are you a wench, a virgin or somewhere in between? “Character development falls into place once you slip into a crisp cotton chemise, tie a twill bodice around your torso or drape a velveteen cloak over your shoulders,” states Hailey Pearson, owner of Pearson’s Renaissance Shoppe. “Our most popular items include our Highlander shirt for both men or women and our complete wench costume with twill bodice, gathered skirt and white classic chemise for dramatic push-up shaping. These choices reveal a lot about the characters our customers wish to portray.”

Event Planning Part 4 - The Meat and Potatoes of Event Planning

Choosing Your Menu

One of the most talked about aspects of any event is the menu. People love to eat and if they are invited to a party, one of the things they will usually be most excited about is the food.

It can be a daunting task, planning an entire menu for a group of twenty, thirty or three hundred people. But with some careful thought and proper event planning, you can prepare a menu that will not only satisfy your guest's appetites but it will impress them as well.

If the group that you are hosting is large, hiring an event planner might be in your best interest. The reason for this is that local event planners generally have an outstanding relationship with caterers. They know who is good, who serves what and which catering company will satisfy all of your dining needs. A benefit to hiring a catering company is that they handle all aspects of beverages and food. All you need to do is sit down with the person planning your event and decide on a menu that will fit into both the appetites of your guests and your budget. Armed with this information, the event planner will contact several caterers get a quote on your party and then come back to you with a few finalists. You'll be able to not only meet with the caterers, but generally you can also get a taste test of what they have to offer. This is a great approach because then you, as the host, are fully prepared for what will be served to your guests the day of the event.

If your soiree is a smaller affair, than you might decide to handle the event planning details of it yourself. This includes taking on the planning of the menu. In this case you'll consider whether a cocktail party, a sit down dinner or a buffet might be in order. Each of these alternatives offers distinct benefits. If you decide on a cocktail party, you'll need to choose several hors d'oeuvres that your guests will enjoy. It's usually prudent to plan on a few of each for every person attending. If you plan in that fashion, you won't be embarrassed by running short of food.

A dinner party or buffets are also good choices for a party. Depending on the number of guests invited you can plan either without too much difficulty. One important note is that whenever you are event planning and the function will include food it's wise to consider whether any of your guests have special needs when it comes to food. This can include things like diabetes or food allergies. If you are having someone attend who is highly allergic to a food, try not to serve that food at all.

When it comes to event planning, menu planning is a big factor. If you consider the size of your guest list and the time of the event, you can choose foods and presentation that fit the tone of your party to a tee.
